How to Spot and Remove Tech Support Scams in 2026

July 2026 • RigRescue Helpful Tips

Tech support scams remain one of the most common threats to everyday computer users. Here's how to recognize them and what to do if you've been targeted.

Common Signs of a Tech Support Scam

  • Unsolicited pop-up warnings claiming your computer is infected
  • Calls from “Microsoft” or “Windows Support”
  • Pressure to act immediately or your computer will be locked
  • Requests for remote access to your PC

What to Do If You See a Scam

Do not call the number on the screen. Close the window or restart your computer. Then contact a trusted technician like RigRescue for a proper diagnostic.

Important: If you didn’t call the number, you’re very likely safe. If you did allow remote access, we can help! Most scam infections are easy to clean up — usually no more than the cost of our diagnostic.
